Uncovering Gold, Chinese Canadian histories, Jan 12

New media technologies and evolving forms of storytelling can change the way we talk about our histories. The history of Chinese immigration to Vancouver is not always well understood between generations or talked about in other communities, but the gap is beginning to be divided with stories like the recently released Escape to Gold Mountain, the first graphic novel to tell the history of the Chinese Canadians published in North America, and the online project Chinese Canadian Stories led by Professor Henry Yu.

Join us for a special dialogue looking at the contours of the increasingly visual and interactive landscape and its effects on the work of historians, artists, and storytellers with special guests David. H. T. Wong, Prof. Henry Yu, Dept. of History, UBC and Vancouver historian Jean Barman, professor emerita, UBC.
