We ? Culture Days!

The North Vancouver Museum and Archives offers free Culture Days activities September 25, 26, & 27

This year the North Vancouver Museum and Archives is offering Culture Days events and programs just as diverse as we are. From the unveiling of a newly restored totem pole crafted by Chief Mathias Joe Capilano to a walking tour of the former counter-culture settlement at Dollarton Mudflats by photographer Bill Jeffries, we're sharing some of the hidden stories that make North Vancouver so unique. Best of all? They're free! Here's the rundown of what we have in store for you this year:

Do you have boxes of family photos and documents deteriorating in your kitchen drawer or attic? We can help! Join us on Friday September 25th from 2pm to 4pm for our Family Records Workshop and learn how to preserve these precious items. Pre-registration required: call 604-990-3700 ex. 8016.

Come and view the recently restored 1940's 4-foot totem pole carved and painted by Chief Mathias Joe Capilano at our Totem Pole Unveiling from noon to 4pm on Saturday, September 26th at the Community History Centre (3203 Institute Road, North Vancouver). The pole will be on display with the photo exhibit, The Skwxwú7mesh  Community:  Our People and Places.

Explore the 21st century's first purpose-built community archives between noon and 4pm on Saturday, September 26th at our Community History Centre (3203 Institute Road, North Vancouver).  Reference Historian Daien Ide and Archivist Janet Turner will share their knowledge of North Vancouver's archives with Behind-the-Scenes Archives Tours.

The NVMA's Curator of Engagement, Lisa Wilson, will help you record your favourite North Vancouver stories with her Voices and Views Memory Bank this Saturday, September 26th from 1pm to 4pm at the Centennial Theatre (2300 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver). Jot your memories down and drop them in our piggy bank, or leave your voice in our portable recording booth. For more information on the Voices and Views project go here<http://nvma.ca/voices-and-views/>.

Finally, stretch your legs and your mind with our Pleasure Faire Walking Tour from 10am to noon on Sunday, September 27th at the Conservation Area at Maplewood Flats (2645 Dollarton Highway, North Vancouver).  Join former Presentation House Gallery Director, Bill Jeffries, and reflect on the impact of the 1970s counterculture movement in North Vancouver. For more information on the 1972 Pleasure Faire go here<http://nvma.ca/exhibits-events/exhibits/>.
