Gatineau, QC

Learn how local archaeology and oral traditions are revealing the ancient cultural landscape between the Chaudière Falls and the mouth of the Gatineau River, as well as the shorelines and forests of the Ottawa River.

Travel back in time with archaeologist Jean-Luc Pilon as you explore the cultural landscape of the north bank of the Ottawa River, from the Chaudière Falls to the mouth of the Gatineau River. For thousands of years, this was an important place for First Peoples, and their stories continue to reverberate beneath our feet. Archaeology, oral traditions and historical accounts reveal a cultural landscape of meeting places and trading spots, along with the spiritual and ceremonial aspects of the falls, riverbanks, and forests.
