Deadline:
10 September 2012
Event Date(s):
11 October 2012 - 14 October 2012
City:
Banff

The Department of History and Classics and the Canadian Mountain Studies Initiative at the University of Alberta are organizing a field trip to Banff National Park on October 11-14, 2012. It will be an opportunity for those studying western Canadian environments, Banff, the Rocky Mountains, or parks more generally to visit and learn more about the local and regional environment. It will also be an occasion to meet other students and faculty working in the field. The trip will consider broadly the interrelationships between three environments: the physical environment of the Rockies, the state-managed environment of a National Park, and the urban environments of the Banff and Canmore townsites.

To help support the research and networking of emerging scholars, the Network in Canadian History and Environment/ Nouvelle initiative canadienne en histoire de l'environnement (NiCHE) will sponsor two or three one-time travel awards to allow graduate students who currently reside and study beyond the Edmonton region to participate. Graduate students from across Canada are invited to apply. Applications are due September 10, 2012.
