This article discusses the use of historical simulation games in history education. The author argues that research and development of such games must be carried out in order to investigate their potential benefits for history education and notes that the use of simulations in other subject areas improves students' understanding of complex systems. He explains that the problem spaces offered by simulations can be utilized as learning opportunities and improve problem-solving skills. The ways in which choice positively plays into simulations game use are also explained. Teaching methods for incorporating games into history education are discussed as well.
