Hennigar Shuh, John. “Teaching Yourself to Teach with Objects.” Journal of Education 7(4) (1982): 8-15.
In his article, John Hennigar Shue outlines what it means to teach with objects in both the museum setting and in schools. He discusses the importance of objects and how much information that cannot be found in texts can be gleaned from an object. He also outlines how objects are for everyone and that age does not act as an impediment to teaching with objects as it can be adapted for any age level. Another great reason to teach with objects is that they relay the story of ordinary people, whereas throughout history the majority of text was written by those in power who held high positions, not the ordinary folk. Hennigar Shue ends the article by teaching the reader how to teach with objects and offers them activities to demonstrate it.
