VanSledright, Bruce, and Peter Afflerbach. “Reconstructing Andrew Jackson: Prospective Elementary Teachers' Readings of Revisionist History Texts.” Theory and Research in Social Education 28(3) (2000): 411-44. http://www.socialstudies.org/cufa/trse
Examines how the reading of two revisionist history text accounts concerning U.S. President Andrew Jackson influenced the historical interpretations and understanding of two prospective elementary teachers. Suggests that rhetorically powerful revisionist history texts may have the capacity to re-narrativize the thinking of prospective teachers receptive to new ideas about the past.
