Poole, Emma. “Ignorance of Our History 'Appalling'; Historian Wants Mandatory Teaching of Achievements in Canadian Classrooms” The Windsor Star April 15, 2002, A8.

Abstract/Summary:

Dr. David Bercuson, director of the Centre for Strategic and Military Studies at the University of Calgary, told a Global Sunday panel that most Canadians have no idea of the country's achievements.

"I think when you try to explain to Canadians the tremendous accomplishments that they have made as a nation . . . they don't understand what you're talking about because they haven't seen the examples put before them in school," said Bercuson.

"Very few Canadians know anything about the Canadian involvement in the Korean War and yet it was the third largest conflict that we've been involved in," said Bercuson.
