Abstract/Summary:

Scott Metzger suggests than an effective and appropriate means for studying historically based feature film is through conducting a “pedagogical content analysis” of film. This analysis contains three elements, which are: (1) Content Coverage/Period Representation; (2) Historical Construction/Social Construction; and (3) Empathy/Moral Response. Metzger states that these three elements of critical analysis are necessary for students to develop and practice so that they can learn not to accept feature films as literal truths.
