Language descriptors for mathematics and history/civics

This survey relates to the European Centre for Modern Languages' project 'Language descriptors for migrant and minority learners' success in compulsory education'.

The aim of the survey is to indicate which level(s) of language competence migrant and minority students at the ages of 12/13 and 15/16 need to be at in order to be successful in history/civics and mathematics in compulsory education. By the term “successful” we mean students who are able to follow what is taught in class, and interact with the teacher and other students. We also mean students who learn what they are supposed to learn, and thus have a platform from which they can go on and learn more. The descriptors have been “collected” and developed with the help of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, some countries’ curriculum aims for mathematics and history/civics for the relevant age groups and research on language in subject matter subjects. During the development process we have had feedback from teacher trainers and teachers of mathematics and history/civics.

The completion of this questionnaire would take approximately 30 - 40 minutes.

Thank you very much for the time you are giving to provide the Centre and the project with feedback.
