Abstract/Summary: 

An essay is presented in which the author discusses how historians can foster undergraduate research in the academic discipline of history in the U.S. as of May 2013. The author argues that historians should utilize models developed by scientific disciplines in creating supportive environments for undergraduate research and student engagement in history. He discusses the concepts of mentoring and collaborative research, undergraduate experience in historical research, and potential benefits to faculty.
