Abstract/Summary:

A case study on an experimental history project for undergraduates dealing with the study of a medieval trebuchet, or catapult, is presented. The authors explain that such experimental projects can be used by history teachers of any specialization to help students find information on historical problems when primary sources are lacking or nonexistent. They outline the independent study course they taught on the subject and note its connection to the field of experimental archaeology.
