I am a PhD Candidate (ABD) in Canadian History at the University of Victoria, an instructor in the History Department at Capilano University and a trainer with the Supported Learning Groups program at the University of the Fraser Valley. I am also a graduate of the brand new Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (LATHE) Graduate Certificate program at UVic. I design and teach courses in the areas of Canadian history, Canadian-American relations, race and ethnicity, world and comparative history, slavery and antislavery, and historical methods. My research focuses on the history of colonialism and resettlement in nineteenth-century Ontario and the Upper Ottawa Valley. I am especially interested in the ways humans interact with their local environments and how these forces shape one another. I am also interested in the theory and practice of university teaching. In addition to my work as an historian, I take an active interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning. I am very excited to be working with student leaders and mentors in the SLG program at UFV this year.
