I am researching the role of Indigenous educators, leaders and community members in the history of Native Studies curricula in publicly funded high schools in Ontario from the early 1970s to the present. I have a strong background in film as a producer, writer and director of documentaries related to the preservation of Indigenous languages and cultures in Canada and abroad as well as two docudramas on restorative justice practices for Nishnawbe Aski Nation Legal Services (The Power of the Circle and The Road Back Home:Talking Together Circles in NAN Communities.)
More recently, as an academic (just competed my MA) I have set my sights on using film and social media to target audiences within Indigenous communities for the dissemination of my findings, particularly where the French and English languages are second languages for a key members of the community such as Elders.
