VHEC Kron Sigal Award for Excellence in Holocaust Education
This award was established in memory of Meyer and Gita Kron and Ruth Kron Sigal, Lithuanian Jewish survivors of the Nazi Holocaust who re-established their lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. Through a life-long involvement with education and community, they affected the lives of thousands of students. The award has been renamed to include Ruth Kron Sigal, who survived the Holocaust in hiding and passed away in December 2008. In Vancouver, Ruth became a dedicated VHEC outreach speaker and tireless community leader, serving as director of the Women’s Resource Centre at UBC for over 25 years.
The Kron Sigal Award is presented annually to an elementary or secondary teacher in any discipline who has shown a commitment to teaching students about the Holocaust and its important lessons for humankind. The cash award of $500 will be presented at the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre Annual General Meeting in June 2013.
The deadline for nominations is March 29, 2013.
