The Center on History and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, is pleased to announce the launch of its website: http://www.tc.columbia.edu/che/

The Center on History and Education encourages new scholarship in the history of education in New York City, as this history is told in relation to the city’s changing neighborhoods, its educational, cultural, municipal and religious institutions, and the social histories of those who have made New York City their home.  With local history as our guide, the Center is committed to developing innovative strategies for teaching history that speak to the lived narratives of students in the K-12 public school classroom, address the relationship between historical illiteracy and social and economic inequality, and encourage engagement with American civic and political life. The Center has joined, in support of these initiatives, with the Programs in History and Education and Social Studies Education in the Department of Arts and Humanities at Teachers College.
