A Look at Saskatchewan African Canadian History

When people think of early 20th century Saskatchewan, an image that is likely to come to mind is that of the European settler farmer. Families from places like Ukraine, Germany, and Russia that arrived here, cultivated the land and dotted the prairie landscape with houses and barns ordered and shipped from the Eaton’s Catalogue.

Of course, we know there’s much more to the story of our province than that. There are well known histories of the many others that call our province home; First Nations people and early Chinese Immigrants, to name just two. Some of the lesser-known stories, however, come from Saskatchewan’s history of people of African Descent.
