New comic on the 1935 Corbin Miners' Strike
The Graphic History Collective (GHC) is pleased to announce the online publication of a new comic on the 1935 miners' strike that occurred in Corbin, British Columbia:
Coal Mountain: A Graphic Re-telling of the 1935 Corbin Miners’ Strike, written and illustrated by Nicole Marie Burton:
The comic is part of the Graphic History Project, which brings together writers and illustrators to produce, on a volunteer basis, a number of short graphic histories of resistance that illustrate the various ways peoples from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences have fought for economic and social justice. Comics are published on theGHC's website and are available for free download: http://graphichistorycollective.com/.
Other comics currently available on the website explore such topics as the Black Panthers; the Knights of Labor; French feminist Suzanne Voilquin; the protests against neoliberal cutbacks in 1990s Ontario; a socialist-feminist labour union; Filipina migrant workers in the Canadian Live-in Caregiver Program; and hobo, Wobbly, and Spanish Civil War veteran Bill Williamson. Forthcoming comics will examine Indigenous longshore workers on Canada's West Coast, and the life of renowned Québec labour activist Madeleine Parent. New submissions are always welcome.
