The Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta seeks a Social Studies Educator for appointment to a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin July 1, 2015.

Applicants must have completed or nearly completed a doctorate in Social Studies curriculum and pedagogy.

We are seeking applicants with teaching and research interests in Social Studies education in one or more of the following areas: citizenship, integration of Social Studies with other subjects and/or technology, international, transnational, and global education, community education, multicultural education, inclusion, social justice education and urban/rural education.

Highly desirable qualifications include expertise in: international engagement; aboriginal engagement; diversity; educational technology; and/or alternative modes of instruction (online and blended). Applicants should demonstrate strong commitment to service through extracurricular involvement in community activities related to education, professional development and service, and/or post-secondary service involvement. Applicants must have relevant teaching experience at the school and/or post-secondary level. Preference is given to applicants with teaching experiences at the early childhood to grade 8 levels. Applicants must demonstrate potential for scholarly productivity and the ability and expertise to teach undergraduate and graduate students and supervise graduate students in Social Studies education.

Responsibilities will include: (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Social Studies education and/or other areas of education across the Faculty (2) engagement in a research program relevant to Social Studies education, including seeking external funding to support research activities (3) contribution to service within the Department and Faculty and (4) advising graduate students.
