The American Educational Research Journal publishes original empirical and theoretical studies and analyses in education from a wide variety of academic disciplines and substantive fields. Its editors are looking for clear and significant contributions to the understanding and/or improvement of educational processes and outcomes.

 

The American Journal of Education seeks to bridge and integrate the intellectual, methodological, and substantive diversity of educational scholarship, and to encourage a vigorous dialogue between educational scholars and practitioners. To achieve that goal, published papers present research, theoretical statements, philosophical arguments, critical syntheses of a field of educational inquiry, and integrations of educational scholarship, policy, and practice.

 

The Canadian Journal of Education publishes articles in a variety of scholarly traditions, as well as review essays, discussions, book reviews, and research notes, broadly but not exclusively related to Canadian education.

 

Canadian Social Studies is an indexed, refereed journal published quarterly on-line at the University of Alberta. It is a journal of comment and criticism on social education and publishes articles on curricular issues relating to history, geography, social sciences, and social studies.

 

The purpose of this journal is to provide a forum for reporting on research relating to social studies content, teacher education, and technology. Although research reports and theoretical articles which address social studies technologies in teacher education are the main focus of the CITE Journal, the editorial committee is also interested in publishing scholarly research on social studies teacher education that makes creative use of technology in the presentation of the article on the web.

Cognition and Instruction's niche is a rigorous study of foundational issues concerning the mental, socio-cultural, and mediational processes and conditions of learning and intellectual competence. For these purposes, both “cognition” and “instruction” must be interpreted broadly. The journal preferentially attends to the “how” of learning and intellectual practices.

 

Curator provides a forum for exploration and debate of the latest issues, practices and policies in museum administration, research, exhibition development, visitor studies, conservation, education, collection management, and other subjects related to museum professional development.

 

Curriculum Inquiry is dedicated to the study of educational research, development, evaluation, and theory. This international journal brings together influential academics and researchers from a variety of disciplines around the world to provide expert commentary and lively debate. Articles explore important ideas, issues, trends, and problems in education, and each issue also includes provocative and critically analytical editorials covering topics such as curriculum development, educational policy, and teacher education.

 

The Elementary School Journal has served researchers, teacher educators, and practitioners in elementary and middle school education for over one hundred years. ESJ publishes peer-reviewed articles dealing with both education theory and research and their implications for teaching practice. In addition, ESJ presents articles that relate the latest research in child development, cognitive psychology, and sociology to school learning and teaching.

 

History and Theory publishes articles, review essays, and summaries of books principally in these areas: critical philosophy of history, speculative philosophy of history, historiography, history of historiography, historical methodology, critical theory, time and culture, and history and related disciplines. Each annual volume consists of four numbers; the fourth number is usually in the form of a theme issue.

 

History News is a quarterly magazine of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH). It provides articles on current trends, timely issues, and best practices for professional development, and the overall improvement of the field of state and local history. The magazine also includes a handy technical leaflet in each issue.

Published by the Society for History Education, The History Teacher publishes articles of three general types:
1) Reports on promising new classroom techniques, educational programs, curricula, and methods of evaluating instructional effectiveness.
2) Analyses of important interpretations, leading historians, historiographical problems, and recent trends in specific fields of historical research.
3) Critical review essays on audiovisual materials, textbooks, and other secondary works suitable for classroom use.

 

The International Journal of Educational Research publishes regular papers and special issues on specific topics of interest to international audiences of educational researchers.

The International Journal of Heritage Studies (IJHS) is an interdisciplinary academic, refereed journal for scholars and practitioners with a common interest in heritage. The Journal encourages debate over the nature and meaning of heritage as well as its links to memory, identities and place. Articles may include issues emerging from Heritage Studies, Museum Studies, History, Tourism Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Memory Studies, Cultural Geography, Law, Cultural Studies, and Interpretation and Design.

 

Published twice yearly, in January and July, in both electronic and printed forms, this journal aims to enhance the teaching of history for students aged 5 - 18, through relevant articles, reviews and information from around the world. IJSE is the journal of the Indiana Council for the Social Studies which publishes critical new information on significant issues, advances important new interpretations, and offers useful revisions of older perspectives on a broad spectrum of topics related to education. The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum addresses the key question: In this time of fundamental social change, what is the role of the museum, both as a creature of that change, and perhaps also as an agent of change? The journal brings together academics, curators, museum and public administrators, cultural policy makers and research students to engage in discussions about the historic character and future shape of the museum. The key question of the Journal is: How can the institution of the museum become more inclusive?

 

Journal of Curriculum Studies publishes original refereed contributions on all aspects of curriculum studies (including those derived from historical, philosophical, comparative and policy-related investigations), pedagogic theory, teacher education and development, assessment and evaluation, and the present state of schooling. In keeping with its international character, Journal of Curriculum Studies especially welcomes articles which extend the perspectives of curriculum beyond national boundaries.

 

Journal of Educational Psychology publishes original, primary psychological research pertaining to education across all ages and educational levels. The journal also occasionally features important theoretical and review articles pertinent to educational psychology.

 

The Journal of Museum Education is a publication promoting and reporting on theory, training, and practice in the museum education field. Journal articles, written by museum, education, and research professionals, explore such relevant topics as learning theory; visitor evaluation; teaching strategies for art, science, and history museums; and the responsibilities of museums as public institutions.

 

The Journal of Social Studies Research is an internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal designed to foster the dissemination of ideas and research findings related to the social studies. JSSR is the official publication of The International Society for the Social Studies.

 

Throughout its history, the Journal has had a continuous objective: to publish the best article-length works of original historical scholarship arising out of the annual conference of the Canadian Historical Association and made available to its editorial board. To this end, the board has sought out and published papers in all fields of history, in French and in English, and representing all approaches to the discipline.

 

The McGill Journal of Education serves a distinct purpose in the field of educational research, theory, and practice. One major goal is to provide a window on developments in education in Quebec. Articles in the Revue française de pédagogie are generally organized thematically and provide access to the latest contributions to research in education. Each issue includes a summary highlighting research trends in a given area, opening up avenues for research nationally and internationally.
