The Research Passages Project
Welcome to the Research Passages Project of THEN/HiER!
For professionals working in diverse areas of history education, research can be both a passage of learning, and a passage through which they exchange what they learn. But it can also be a passage that seems closed to those most involved with the practice of history education—teachers, professors, museum professionals, archivists and a wide variety of public historians. As part of its mandate to create better passages between researchers and practitioners, THEN/HiER is launching the Research Passages Project.
The Research Passages Project invites teachers, professors, museum professionals and other history-related practitioners to carry out small research projects in the course of their daily work, and to use THEN/HiER’s website to share this research with others interested in knowing more about history education—researchers and practitioners alike.
If you have you ever thought about conducting your own mini-research project to improve the way you do your work as a history educator, or to gain insight into the effectiveness or impact of your research, you might be interested in participating.
Have you ever asked yourself questions such as:
- Did that last field trip meet my expectations?
- What historical knowledge do museum visitors take from our new exhibit?
- Did photographs expand my students’ understanding of the First World War?
- How did my first year university students conceptualize the role of women in history?
- Have you ever wondered if others are interested in, or may have some answers about, the same questions/issues/problems that you encounter?
If you have answered 'yes' to any of these questions, you might be interested in participating in the Research Passages Project.
